Last weekend was the 86th Tokyo Comiket, Japan’s bi-annual version of Comicon. Here’s how it went down:
Advertisements targeting the advancing otaku horde were plastered all over the nearest train station
They missed those that came by bike though
Close to the venue, Tokyo Big Sight, a few street performers were making the most of the crowds
Kakigori (shaved ice) was the food of choice, with a couple dozen vendors selling the treat from tiny stalls
Manga-themed water was also for sale inside the venue
Though many (including Tokyo Desu’s George) chose to buy Pocari Sweat from girls dressed up as maids instead
Don’t forget a maid outfit for your bottle
A lot of the manga was pretty… adult-oriented
Resulting in strange scenes like this
Security guards politely yelled at people
Some fans got decked out in official gear
While others kept cool with air-conditioned shirts
But all the attention was on the cosplayers’ outfits, some of which were amazing (click images to enlarge)
